Conflicts

Of the several conflicts in the novel, in my opinion the most important is the hostility between Bud and his "father" Herman E. Calloway (the central member of the famous band, Herman E. Calloway and the Dusky Devastators of the Depression-although the band has also gone under many alternative names) is the vital conflict in the book. There are several conflicts beside the one with Bud's so-called Daddy, such as Bud's controversial thoughts about going to find his father, the troubles Bud has faced throughout his life-also while he attempts to walk to Grand Rapids to reach Herman E. Calloway and the many set-backs he was forced to face. There is also a conflict in the book between African Americans and White people, where the blacks aren't being treated with anything close to the correct amount of respect and equality as anyone else. This is a very important conflict in the book.
